“Art, hot soup, and hunger relief? Yes, all of this is available at one great local event!” says REALTOR® Stacey Gendreau.

Empty Bowls is an annual community event hosted by the Emergency Food Network here in Tacoma and has been happening now for over 20 years now!” shares Stacey. “Local artists donate thousands of beautiful handmade bowls that are sold at the event. These local handmade bowls make a great gift to share with others for this holiday, or add them to your own collection to serve that warm soup or chili out of during these cozy winter days.” (Click here to see examples of the beautiful bowls that will be available for purchase!)

“The event is a way that anyone can participate in the fight against food insecurity in a fun way. Gathering for a good cause around a bowl of soup is a great feeling,” Stacey adds. And not only that, but the Emergency Food Network makes a profound impact on our community:

“Emergency Food Network provides 14.4 million pounds of healthy, nutritious food annually to 71 food pantries, hot meal sites, and shelters for distribution to families and individuals in need in our own community!”

Stacey’s 4 Pro Tips for Attending Empty Bowls:

  • “Get there early, the line is long, but very friendly!”
  • “Bring a box or large bag to carry all your cool bowls home in.”
  • “Come with an empty stomach because after you buy your bowls, you get to go enjoy free soup provided by local restaurants and chefs from around Tacoma!”
  • “The bowls starting price are $10.00 and go up from there depending on size.”
